How to wash your Human hair wig.
Washing your human hair wig or topper is right up there on the list of things that can easily freak you out when it comes to stepping in to the hair wearing world.
There are a few things that I would always recommend you have to hand ...
- A care head to pin your wig to.
- A wide tooth comb.
- Good quality products to wash your wig with.
The aim of today's blog post is to take the fear out of washing your human hair wig or topper and get you lathering up like a pro!
Step 1: prepare the hair
Before you even turn on the tap or shower head you need to prepare your human hair wig for the wash process. Grab a wide tooth comb or hair brush and gently start to comb through any tangles. Start at the ends of the hair, slowly working your way up towards the base.
Step 2: wet the hair.
Starting at the parting, start to wet down the hair always remembering to work in a downward motion.
Human hair wigs don't need washing like free growing bio hair does so please don't worry about building up a really suddy lather.
Step 3: add your chosen products.
When it comes to selecting the correct products I can not stress how important it is to invest in a good quality shampoo and conditioner!
Our good friends over at Jon Renau have created a fantastic range of products that make the washing process so much easier.
Once you have the hair on your Human hair wig wet, you want to add a small amount of shampoo to your palm and rub together in your hands then apply to the hair. Pay special attention to smoothing the shampoo down through the lengths of the hair and do not "scrub" the product into the hair as this can encourage tangling. Rinse thoroughly with clean running water and give the lengths of the hair a little squeeze to remove any excess water ready for conditioning.
Next, apply a small amount of conditioner to your palm and spread across to the other hand. Work the conditioner through the mid length to ends of the hair (just as you did with the shampoo) working in a downward motion. Leave for a few minutes then rinse thoroughly.
Step 4: Rinse and wrap.
Remove your Human hair wig from the care head and gently squeeze out the excess water before wrapping your wig in a lovely, clean and warm towel.
I like to leave my wig in the towel for 5 minutes or so to allow time for the water to absorb. Press the hair gently with your towel until your wig feels towel dry and is no longer dripping wet.
Step 5: comb through.
Comb through the hair again once it is towel dry and there you go!
